How to Use the Scratch-Off Cards Printable
This printable includes 6 scratch-off cards per page. Each card has three scratch-off spots and the phrase:
“Scratch One to Reveal a Surprise!”
You can customize them for any event by changing what you write on each scratch-off area. You can reveal a gift, prize, experience, message, or game action, depending on how you want to use them.
These scratch-off cards are perfect to keep on hand for holidays, gifts, and parties all year long.
Supplies You’ll Need
You will need:
- The free printable card template (get it below)
- White cardstock or heavy paper
- Acrylic paint (metallic or silver works best, and it’s less than $2.00 for a bottle!)
- Dish soap
- Clear packing tape
- Small paintbrush or Q-tips
- Small cup for mixing
How to Make DIY Scratch Off Cards
1. Print the free template on cardstock for best results.
2. Write a message with a marker or pen in the area you want to make scratchable.
3. Cover the area that you want to be scratchable with packing tape. This prevents smudging and makes scratching cleaner.
4. Prepare the scratch off paint.
- Mix 2 parts acrylic paint with 1 part dish soap. The soap helps the paint peel off easily when scratched.
- Choose a color that covers your message completely (silver, gold, or bright colors work well).
5. Paint the scratch-off area.
- Use a paintbrush or Q-tip to cover the message with your paint mixture.
- Let it dry completely (usually 1–2 hours). Add two to three more layers of paint. Let the paint completely dry in between layers.
6. Scratch and Reveal! Hand your cards out and let friends or family scratch off the paint to reveal the surprise message.
Tips for Best Results
- Use cardstock to prevent warping when painting.
- Let each paint layer dry completely before adding another. I used three layers of paint on my cards.
- Plan ahead and make your scratch-off cards in batches. The paint mixture goes a long way!
- Kids can definitely help (and will want to!)
