The power of ugly gifts
Good morning. Today, I’d like to share this:
Follow your arrow. Wherever it points.
Because what you do today creates your tomorrow.
Oh, and also unwrap those ugly gifts (See today’s story). They’re just as important as the pretty ones wrapped in perfect paper.

A Memory That Still Makes Me Cringe
In high school, My Junior year English teacher told me to stay after class one day.
After all the kids filed out, she accused me of cheating on my most recent paper.
“It looks like something that would be online” she said. “There’s no way it’s your own writing.”
I stood there, stunned. Cheating hadn’t even crossed my mind. (And she had no proof.) But even though I pleaded my case, she wouldn’t hear it.
That day, I walked out ashamed for something I never did, knowing that someone I respected thought I was the worst kind of cheater.
I avoided her and kept my head low the rest of the year. In fact, the experience and feelings stuck with me for years. (And even now the memory makes me cringe.)
But eventually, I followed my heart and started to write. And now, 20+ years later…
I make a living writing online. Ironic, right?
You see, after I got past the humiliation (mostly), I realized that I should be grateful for the hidden gift this teacher gave me. Perhaps my writing was actually something to explore.
It’s all in the perspective friend.
What is one unsavory life moment that actually has hidden value for you?
You might not see it at first glance. The gift may be covered in the ugliest wrapping paper you’ve ever seen.
But it’s there, waiting for you to unwrap. 🎁
