Supplies You Need

  • Gift cards (one per puzzle)
  • Printed pictures of the gift cards (color copies work best)
  • Printed pictures of money (larger-than-life bills look extra fun!)
  • Scissors (cut into 5–10 pieces each, depending on difficulty)
  • A place to pile or hide the puzzle pieces

Objective of the Game

The goal is to hunt down and piece together an entire puzzle that matches one prize. Once you finish, that gift card or money is officially yours!

How to Play The Puzzle Payoff Game

1. Print and cut each gift card and money picture into puzzle pieces. Keep the number of pieces the same for each puzzle (5–10 pieces works well).

Pro Tip: Playing with a big group? Number the back of each puzzle piece (1–10) for every picture. That way, players can quickly tell which pieces they’ve collected and which ones they still need to finish their puzzle.

2. Scatter all the puzzle pieces into one giant pile or hide them around the room or house for a scavenger hunt twist.

3. Players search, grab, and collect pieces.

4. A player must complete a full puzzle to claim the prize. If they have pieces from different puzzles, they’ll need to trade with others or keep hunting until they finish one.

5. The game continues until all the puzzles are solved and every prize is claimed.

Solving the “Mixed Puzzle” Problem

It’s totally normal for players to end up with different puzzle pieces that don’t match. That’s part of the fun! Here are a few ways to handle it:

  • Discard Pile: Create a “community pile” where players can drop off pieces they don’t need. Anyone can pick from it at any time.
  • Trade It Out: Players can swap pieces with others to try to finish their puzzle.
  • Steal a Piece: Add a rule that if someone has a duplicate or doesn’t need a piece, another player can challenge them for it (with a mini-game like rock-paper-scissors).
