October Money Moves – Millionaire Fastlane, Passive $, & The Power of No
Hi friend! Once a month I highlight 5 real-life ways I saved, earned, and invested.
Here are the money moves this month:
1. I Read a Money Book
The book is called “The Millionaire Fastlane.” I saw it on a recommended book list. And I mostly read it while waiting for appointments and kids activities.
I have to give this one credit – it’s different. He’s polarizing in a lot of ways. But it forces you to think about money and business differently. It’s going to be one of my favorites simply because it doesn’t blend into the average advice.
2. I Worked on Passive Income
A few sections of the book explored the idea of building a “money tree system.”
What’s this?
It’s building a business that passively grows and earns for you. (Maybe money can grow on trees.)
In the book, he gives a great story of two Egyptian brothers. Both brothers were tasked to build a pyramid (without help from others). The first one finished would become the next Pharoah.
So, one brother got to work. He built his pyramid by hand day after day.
The second brother did NO building for 3 years. Instead, he worked on creating a machine. This brother looked lazy to the outside world. But once his machine was complete, he built his pyramid in months, while the first brother toiled for the rest of his life.
It’s an interesting story that illustrates the power of building a system.
Which got me working on systems in my own business:
- Automated email marketing
- Better titles, optimized images, etc.
- Putting in automatic features that capture leads
- Including more products in emails and articles that create passive income over time
I’m grateful for the book. It has helped me look at business in a fresh way.
3. We Went More Frugal With Halloween Costumes
We bought one costume on Amazon. Otherwise, one kid used what he had. And the other one decided to buy her costume with her own money to match a friend. I bought two bags of candy the day before Halloween (so that I wouldn’t eat it all and have to buy more). 🤣
It ended up being one of our more affordable Halloweens!
4. I started a Donation Box
It’s halfway filled up. I also threw away a bunch of old stuff in my bathroom drawers. Our house could use a good clean out and I’m hoping to finish this in November.
5. I Said No
This has been a big thing for me this month. October was CRAZY with the kids and activities. In fact, I’m feeling burned out from the pace.
To protect my work time and mental health, I realized at the end of the month that I need to create better boundaries.
For example, on October 31st, my kindergarten daughter forgot her Halloween costume gloves. Her teacher asked if I could run them up to school at 10:00am (even though I was already coming at 3:30pm), I almost went. But then I realized that THIS is part of why I feel stressed out. So, I said no. My daughter waited. I got my work done. And it was fine.
I can also say no to extra kids activities and any social events I’m not excited to be at. Which is my biggest goal in November.
