How to Build Your Millionaire Morning Routine (in 2024)
Maybe you’d love to ease the burden of debt that weighs you down. Or you long to retire early. Or enjoy the freedom to decide how and when you earn money.
There are immense benefits to being wealthy.
But there’s a problem.
You work hard. But, progress is slow. And other times, you’re just not sure what to DO to make that financial wealth happen.
So, how do a few people build massive wealth while others are scraping by?
Consistency. And there’s one key practice that helps: A millionaire morning routine.
In a five-year study of self-made millionaires, it was found that almost 50 percent of them woke up at least three hours before their workday began (Insider.com)
Your Wealth Building Millionaire Morning Routine
In the book, The 5 am Club, Robin Sharma calls a well-built morning routine a “Gargantuan Competitive Advantage.” Because it is! Here’s why:
You Consistently Work on Yourself
Learning is a superpower. Quiet time breeds your best ideas. And if you’re sick and tired, your wealth-building efforts are limited. These are all addressed during a good millionaire morning routine.
- Clear your mind with meditation
- 3x your energy with exercise
- Improve your optimism and thinking with journaling
- Master your craft with reading and listening
It Gives You a Chance to Goal Set
Often, our days are filled with endless lists of to-dos. This leaves little room to dream.
Think of yourself as a runner. You want to run fast. But if you’re always sprinting to your destination, you don’t slow down enough to think about where you’re going. Eventually, you’ll cross the finish line of the wrong race.
With a millionaire morning routine, you’ll have the space to think about your purpose and financial goals.
You Set Your Intentions For the Day
An amazing routine builds your mindset, energy, and inspiration. By front-loading these things, you’ll be setting your intention for a day well lived.
You Get Into Flow State
Think about your typical day. How many times are you interrupted (or do you check social media)?
Now, consider the difference when you move through activities that are proven to get you into flow. Your focus and concentration are unparalleled.
Your Millionaire Morning Routine for Wealth
People don’t get wealthy by accident. They do it by creating habits that support a sharp brain, healthy body, and impactful life.
However, no one has time to do them all in the morning. Pick and choose which ones are most beneficial to you with the time that you have.
Each activity has an approximate time next to it to help you plan!
1. Wake Up With Exercise (5-10 minutes)
Sure, when you wake up in the morning, you don’t always feel like moving. But morning exercise is the key to unlocking your mind and energy. Millionaires know that mental focus and health are the foundation of a day full of progress.
With a good sweat session, you go from blah to on fire in a matter of minutes!
This doesn’t have to be an hour-long sweat session either (unless you want to!) Try yoga or the 7-minute workout app for fast ways to move that wake you up.
2. Eat a Healthy Breakfast (5-10 minutes)
While I’m a huge fan of smoothies for getting your morning greens in, it’s not the only healthy way to start your day. Here are other great ideas:
- Eggs with spinach
- Oatmeal sweetened with berries
- Sweet potato hash (with veggies)
- Yogurt and a piece of fruit
Not only are you setting the tone for the rest of the day with your breakfast, but your self-control is highest in the morning. So, use that to choose an option that loves your body and feeds your mind well.
3. Read a Few Pages From a Book (5-10 minutes)
While five minutes of reading doesn’t seem like much, you can work through an entire book with a daily morning habit. Plus, going at a slow and steady pace helps you digest and implement what you read as well.

4. Drink a Glass of Water (2 minutes)
After hours of sleep, your body is dehydrated.
That’s why drinking a glass of water can be a huge boost in how you feel (while clearing your mental fog).
5. Journal For Happiness (2-10 Minutes)
First, when you develop a sense of gratitude for your smallest blessings, you’ll realize that you don’t have to wait to be a millionaire to be happy. You can be joyful now.
It’s ok to be BOTH happy and striving for more.
This doesn’t mean you have to sit for hours though. Instead, write down three blessings every morning. On the days that you are frustrated by a setback or slow progress, force yourself to see how far you’ve come.
6. Record Your Big Ideas (1-5 minutes)
Have you ever had a great idea only to lose it five minutes later? Or dismiss it right away?
Your thinking is clearest in the morning, so take advantage by recording any thoughts and ideas roaming around in your head.
7. Visualize Your Success
Michael Phelps visualized his swims often. He pictured himself performing well, and what he would do if his races didn’t go as planned.
Jim Carrey once wrote himself a $10 million dollar check. He post-dated it ten years in the future and kept it in his wallet.
And these are only a few examples!
So, take a few minutes every morning and picture yourself living the way you want to live. Then, let the day play out to follow your vision.

8. Spend Time Connecting (5-60 minutes)
Financial success is hollow when you don’t have anyone to share it with.
But people can get so focused on building wealth, they forget to nurture their relationships too. It’s a balance.
Add time to connect with those you love most in your millionaire morning routine. Put your digital devices and mental to-do list away, and be present with your tribe. After all, they are what matters most.
9. Write Your 3 Most Important Tasks For the Day (2-5 minutes)
Are you busy being busy? Or are you making real progress toward your dreams. While these two things look the same to an outsider, they are fundamentally different.
As part of your millionaire morning routine, write down your 3 most important to-dos for the day.
What 3 things, if you complete them, will make for an excellent day?
10. Start Your Top Task (5-60 Minutes)
Now that you have your big 3, choose your most impactful task and “eat that frog.” This popular idea from Brian Tracy means to do the hardest thing first in the day. As you do this day in and day out, you’ll be shocked by the level of success you see.
And if you don’t have enough time to get it all done, don’t worry about it. Just START! Use the time you have and you’ll have the momentum to finish it up later in the day.
11. Watch a Short Inspirational Video (2-10 minutes)
Give yourself a regular dose of motivation in the morning to help make your entire day a success. Try a short video on Youtube that helps get you fired up.
12. Meditate (2-20 minutes)
Meditation is the ultimate stress reliever. Focusing on your breath (or a mantra) for a specific amount of time can also help you reduce negative thoughts and improve your mental focus. Hugh Jackman has likened it to clearing your mind in the way that a cloudy cup of water becomes clear.
I recommend an app like Headspace. The guided voice helps you stay focused and teaches proven strategies to get the most out of this habit.
13. Read an Article (5-10 minutes)
Informative articles are thought-provoking and more concise than long books. So, read one article a day to do short learning spurts in the morning.
Topics to explore that build wealth include:
- Personal finance & investing facts
- Mastering your craft &/or career building
- Leadership
- Business
- Productivity
- Rich vs wealthy mindset
- Relationship building (divorce seriously impacts your finances)
- Autobiographies of people who made/make an impact on society
- Spirituality, health, and anything else that affects your energy and focus
14. Listen to a Podcast (5-10 minutes)
Podcasts are a great way to learn useful skills and information in a short amount of time!
Try listening while doing the other things on this millionaire morning routine list:
- Exercise
- Stretch
- Pack yourself a lunch
- Drive to work or kids’ school
15. Track Your Budget (5-10 minutes)
Keep your finances in order by checking your expenses and/or income from the day before. As you do, you’ll know exactly where you’re at with your money, and how much you have to spend for the rest of the week.
16. Write Down Your Goals (2-5 Minutes)
The statistics above show that the effort you put into goal setting makes a massive difference in whether you’ll follow through or not. So, why not build your goals into your morning routine?
By writing them down and checking your plan, you’ll be keeping them in the forefront of your mind for the day.
16. Stretch Your Body (5-10 minutes)
Relieve tension and get rid of stiffness with basic stretching. It’s also a great way to increase blood flow and wake yourself up.
17. “Dump” Your Worries (2-10 minutes)
Next, have you ever spent hours wasted worrying about something?
Save yourself time and frustration by incorporating a “mind dump” into your morning routine. To do this, spend 5 minutes writing down in a notebook everything that’s in your head.
Record any thoughts, feelings, big ideas, worries, all of it – without editing. Then, move along with your day. With time, you’ll find that you’re getting your toxic emotions and worries out, and giving yourself the gift of clarity.
18. Try Affirmations in Your Millionaire Morning Routine (1-3 minutes)
Finally, the way you talk to yourself determines the trajectory of your life:
We live up to who we believe that we are.
So, if you believe that you can’t do something, you’ll never put forth the work to accomplish it. Luckily, we can train our brains to do better. Spend a few moments each morning repeating special phrases with feeling to re-wire your neurons.

Millionaire Morning Routine Step By Step Example
Let’s review. For a morning routine that breeds millionaires, consider these six elements when you wake up.
A millionaire morning routine might look something like this:
6:00 Move your body. Walk on the treadmill, cycle, stretch, &/or do a plank.
6:20 Review or write short and long term goals. (See good financial goals examples)
6:30 Read a few pages from a finance, business, or leadership book
6:40 Review your day. Prioritize the MOST IMPORTANT task to move forward.
6:45 Work on that one thing specified above. (Ex. review the budget)
7:15 Make a quick smoothie.
7:20 Visualize your dreams and goals. See yourself reaching them, and overcoming obstacles.
This routine is flexible. And remember, this is only an example. Use the ideas above to customize your own millionaire morning routine.
What If You Don’t Have Enough Time?
If you’re short on time in the mornings, you have plenty of options! Maybe you…
- get up earlier
- spend less time on each activity
- simplify your number of habits or move ideas to lunchtime
- alternate days
Do what you can, with what you have. (But also, maybe it’s time to change the story you tell yourself about mornings)
How to Make Your Morning Routine Stick
Next, knowing you should start a millionaire morning routine, and actually staying with it are two different things. But have not fear! These will help!
Trick Yourself
When I was building my own morning routine, I promised myself that if I did it consistently for 66 days (that’s how long it takes to build a habit), I could quit at day 67.
This small tweak helped me feel like I had “an out” if I wanted it.
Start Small and Build
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your morning routine. If you’re just starting out, begin with one action that gets you on the right track. (Try exercise because of how great it makes you feel).
Then, build slowly over time.
Make a Pact
Accountability is a HUGE asset when it comes to accomplishing your goals. Make a pact with your partner, a bet with a friend, send weekly progress to your mom, or join a group challenge. Use social peer pressure to your advantage.

Set Clear Boundaries
Boundaries are crucial if you have a busy life or a family. You must make your morning time a priority, let others know about it, problem solve challenges, and follow through.
Put Things Out the Night Before
When you have everything you need for your morning routine laid out, it makes it incredibly easy to follow through. If you’re struggling, sleep in your workout clothes for a few weeks until you get your habit established.
Put Your Phone in Another Room
Next, take an extra thirty seconds to walk your phone into another room. Unless you need it for your routine, your phone will only detract from the tone you’re setting for the day.
Balance Your Activities
While this article is about building finances, a good millionaire morning routine shouldn’t be all about money. Wealth comes in many different forms, and you should be building your health and happiness along the way as well.
Something to Consider
Remember, life’s a marathon, not a sprint. (And make sure when you do sprint, it’s to the right things!) A well-structured millionaire morning routine puts you on the path to making your financial dreams a reality sooner rather than later.
