5 Money Moves for May – Short Challenge, Cutting Hours, & More
Hi friend! Once a month I highlight 5 real-life ways I saved, earned, and invested.
Here are the money moves this month:
1. I did the 5 in 5 Challenge
This is a five day challenge to jumpstart the saving process. I love the longer challenges on the site, but short money challenges are better for making big progress quickly. However, because of this, it also requires higher focus.
My goal was $500 and I fell short. I’m still happy with the changes I made though. You can read about my 5 in 5 challenge (and then do it too).
The biggest personal takeaway from this challenge is just how easy it is for subscription costs to creep up on you.
2. I Cut My Business Work Hours
Most people wouldn’t think this is a financial move. And I honestly didn’t either.
But when I cut my hours for the summer, I realized there are a lot of tasks I do that don’t push the needle enough in my business. This itself is a huge epiphany. One that’s extremely helpful in evaluating what’s most important.
Pro Tip: If you ever wonder if what you’re doing is the best use of your time, pretend to cut the hours you have to work on it. Everything will fade away except the most essential.
3. I Finished the Book “Ask for It”
This book is a must-read for women. I’ll be gifting it to my daughters when they get older. Studies show that women don’t ask for things, or even negotiate. And it’s harming our financial success in massive ways.
To be honest, I didn’t think this was a problem for me. But when I read the book, I realized that I too never ask. It’s something my husband has even pointed out in our conversations. “If it’s something you need, why don’t you just ask?”
I want to work on this in the coming months. And maybe build an “ask for it” challenge on the site around it!
4. I Invested in Facebook Ads
Facebook ads drive email subscribers to my sites. They aren’t cheap, which I can find intimidating. But I’ve been working hard on investing more without being too conservative. It requires a bit of risk and faith in the work, but I’m excited about the potential.
5. I’ve Started Writing Affirmations/Goals
Thanks to being inspired by the 5 Mindset Secrets of the Ultra Rich.
I’ve been doing this for both finance and other areas of life during morning quiet time. It takes only a minute or two. And I’ve noticed a mental difference in two ways because of it:
- Writing it every day reinforces the belief that it’s possible.
- I’ve noticed that I’m more focused on the goal, long after I write it. Somehow writing it is keeping it at the forefront of my mind.
My goal for June is to keep this practice up. Aside from making progress on what I write, I like the mood boost it gives me when I write it.
